In December 2023, the company was authorized to conduct seismic blasting between Plettenberg Bay and Gqeberha in South Africa. The decision sparked protests by environmentalist groups who accused the company of involvement in ecocide. At May 15 2024, CGG Inc officially rebranded to Viridien.
