MTN is among the largest mobile network operators in the world, and the largest in Africa. MTN is active in over 20 countries including Asian countries like Syria, with one-third of company revenue generated in Nigeria, where it held about 35 percent market share in 2016, and 289.1 million subscribers in December 2022. MTN Group is the primary sponsor of the South Africa national rugby union team and sponsors English football club Manchester United and Zambian Super League.
